Laguna de Oviedo
In Oviedo you will reach the Laguna de Oviedo, a fresh salt water lagoon, which is only separated from the sea by a narrow strip of land. You will discover dry, almost desert-like vegetation and marvel at a number of different large birds, such as herons, spoonbills and ducks. The Laguna de Oviedo has a total of 22 islands, which vary greatly in size. Here you will have the unique chance to observe iguanas in the wild during an island tour. The hike will take you across the small island, through sparse and cactus-covered vegetation, to an observation tower. From here you have a fantastic view over the lagoon and the Jaragua National Park, the Caribbean Sea and the mountains of the Sierra de Bahoruco.
